Building Confidence Through Accomplishment: Empowering Girls in Whatcom County

Thanks to the generous support from BP, Girls on the Run of NW Washington has been able to make a meaningful impact across every school district in Whatcom County over the past year. Girls in grades 3 - 6 from Blaine, Ferndale, Mt. Baker, Meridian, Lynden, Nooksack, and Bellingham participated in the program, learning about positive self-talk, managing emotions, and standing up for themselves and others.

The program has also provided these young participants with the chance to experience the satisfaction of giving back to their communities through various Community Impact Projects. This sense of teamwork and community spirit is a core part of what makes Girls on the Run so special.

One of the most exciting moments of the year was the culmination of the Spring and Fall seasons, where all the teams came together to complete a 5K—a truly joyous day for everyone involved. The event highlighted not just the physical achievement of the girls, but also the confidence and camaraderie they had built throughout the program.

We're also proud to offer financial assistance to families, ensuring that every girl who wants to participate can do so, regardless of their financial situation. BP’s support has been instrumental in making this possible, helping us reach more families and continue to empower girls across the county.

The girls' efforts in their Community Impact Projects are worth celebrating as well. For instance, the Blaine team raised money to donate to the Blaine Community Support Center, while the Cascadia team created and delivered encouraging cards to community members, including firefighters, mail carriers, and residents at a senior living community.

Through these activities and the support of partners like BP, we continue to build strong, confident girls who are ready to take on the world.
