Today, we stood witness to a remarkable moment in our community's history: the groundbreaking ceremony for the Millworks project. This collaborative effort between Mercy Housing Northwest, the Whatcom Family YMCA, and a host of dedicated community partners has ignited a spark of excitement within us. The Millworks project, an innovative development on the horizon, promises to deliver much-needed affordable housing for families, including a special allocation of 10% for those transitioning out of homelessness.

But it doesn't stop there. This project is a testament to what can be achieved when vision and cooperation intersect. It is a beacon of hope amid the ongoing affordable housing challenges our region faces. The Millworks initiative not only offers shelter but also a vibrant community space, outdoor recreation areas, and a brand-new Early Learning Center (ELC) that will soon house our Downtown ELC location.
